Course overview

As professionals working with young children and their families, we have the responsibility to protect and support them, ensuring their safety, wellbeing and that their developmental needs are met.

An empowering environment is where children have a voice, actively participate and have routine opportunities for leadership. Equipping children with the skills and knowledge to make informed decisions for their own health and well-being is important for child outcomes, and in enabling them to be agents of change and positively impact their surroundings in the future.

When children are supported to articulate their needs and feelings, they are more likely to be able to identify when something is wrong and ask for help. They are also more likely to feel in control of their own lives and be better able to cope with difficult and challenging situations that may arise.

But in order for us to do this effectively, we must listen to and empower children to have a voice in the decisions that affect their lives.

This workshop provides educators in empowering the children with healthy habits and safety awareness at home, in school and at public places. Empowerment is widely considered beneficial to children’s learning, development, mental health and wellbeing. This is because children build resilience  through making their own decisions and knowing that adults respect, value and listen to them.
